Midland greenkeepers dig deep for training 12/11/2007
The sun shone for 6 Bigga Midland Section greenkeepers as they gathered at Gay Hill Golf Club on 5th and 6th November for a two-day 360º excavator training course.
Expert training was provided by Allturf Management in conjunction with Bigga and Marubeni-Komatsu, who supplied the two PC27 crawler excavators for the practical parts of the course.
Thanks to a 3:1 candidate to trainer ratio, there was plenty of time for hands on training. Skills ranging from health and safety awareness to various operations and trenching skills were taught during the course, with all delegates showing a sound level of competence.
Paul Woodham, Education and Training co-ordinator for Bigga Midlands section said, “This is very much a starting point for clubs to fulfil their responsibilities. The course is not designed to replace NPTC, Lantra Awards or other highly reconised certificates. What it does do is provide quality training at an affordable cost to the employer”.
Paul continues, “This event rounds off a very busy period of training events for the Midland Section. During the two weeks previous to the excavator course, both the Irrigation Workshop and Noise and Vibration Management Seminars were really successful events. “We have educated and trained over 80 greenkeepers in the last 3 weeks, but only feel that we’re scratching the surface of what can be achieved.
Bigga are offering a fantastic range of educational subjects at BTME, Harrogate in January and with the commitment to Section events, there is every opportunity for career development”.
