New ADT's make debut at Hillhead
01/06/2005

Amongst the new equipment on show on stand Y1 will be the HM300-1 and HM400-1 articulated dump trucks (ADT’s), 2 of the 3 new vehicles in the HM range with payload capacities of 27.3 and 36.5 tonnes respectively (the vehicle not on show which completes the new range is the HM350-1, offering a payload of 32.3 tonnes).

Already well established in North America, the HM range is now available in Europe and is based on extensive comparative testing against the leading machines in the market which shows them to be top of their class in productivity, structural integrity and operator comfort.

With all the main components, including the suspension, engines and K-atomics transmission Komatsu-designed and built, they are well proven and tested in the most demanding of applications.  The cast-steel pivot is the most heavy-duty design found in this class of trucks.

The HM300 is the only truck in its payload class to feature oil-cooled wet disc brakes (standard on all models), making it ideally suited to environmentally hostile conditions such as salt water.  The wet disc brakes also eliminate the need to change brake pads, saving on costs and the all important downtime.

The hydropneumatic suspension has been standard on Komatsu’s rigid dump trucks, with the front axle on the new HM range based on a ‘De Dion’ design that helps ride bumps more smoothly, while the rear axles are mounted on a dynamic equaliser structure that is equipped with hydropneumatic suspension.  This all adds up to a system that responds fully to the ground conditions, delivering a comfortable ride, supporting greater operator concentration and assisting in optimising productivity.

Attention has also been paid to ease of maintenance with rapid access to the engine and transmission via a rear tilting cab and all engine filters grouped together for rapid, easy servicing.
