New Komatsu machine gets Royal Launch 15/04/2004
His Royal Highness The Duke of York launched the latest machine in Komatsu’s - 7 range earlier this month.
On a visit to Komatsu UK Ltd, The Duke handed over the keys for the first of the all-new PW 160 –7 wheeled machine, to Hugh Edeleanu of H.E. Services (Plant Hire) Ltd.
H.E.Services are Komatsu’s single biggest customer in Europe having bought more than 500 units over the past several years, and will buy another 200 machines over the coming two years.
The complete range of wheeled machines are designed, developed and manufactured at Komatsu’s plant in Birtley near Newcastle. The 16 tonne machine is a direct development of the already successful PW 200 –7 wheeled machine, and replaces the PW 170 -6.
The UK factory is the only Komatsu manufacturing plant outside of Japan which designs and develops it’s own product. In his role as The UK’s Special Representative for International Trade and Investment, His Royal Highness paid tribute to the efforts of the workforce in producing and marketing new and innovative products.
The new model will be officially launched at Bauma in Germany, and will go on sale from April.
